Commander’s Intent

The Dayton Development Coalition’s Transformation Summit on May 10th, 2024, marked a significant milestone in the ongoing discourse about digital materiel management (DMM) and integration across defense sectors. The day was packed with insightful updates and strategic directions from various leaders, starting with the DMM Year 2: Commander’s Intent, which set a strong tone for the day’s discussions, reviewing the great progress and DMM’s relationship to Great Power Competition (GPC).

IAC update

After a brief break, the summit resumed with eagerly anticipated Consortium Updates by Phil Zimmerman, Stevens Institute, which were recorded for broader accessibility. This session highlighted the Industry Acceleration Consortium (IAC) achievements and introduced the inaugural project for the Digital Acceleration Consortium (DAC), a prototype project to update Data Item Descriptors for a digital-first future.

DTO/DATF Updates

The summit transitioned into focused discussions on the remaining DMM initiatives of Modernizing IT Infrastructure and Structuring and Securing Data. These DMM initiatives are implemented by creating Integrated Digital Environments (IDE) and pursuing Data integration efforts to link disparate networks, capabilities, and data into a seamless system. The briefings highlighted the need to evolve from basic tool access to cross-domain access and integrated data sources, to a fully integrated and complete digital environment where users have access to tailored dashboards, workflows and templates and complete model repositories to accelerate delivery of capability to the war fighter. The briefings also covered current and planned efforts by the DATF and DTO to make these capabilities a reality for the acquisition workforce and beyond.
